Kitchen Design Trends For 2022

About

To say the current house market has exploded would be a total understatement. There’s no denying, things seemed to have gotten out of control, which for many, has resulted in one thing: renovating, not relocating. Yes, unsurprisingly, more and more people are choosing to stay put, and instead, invest in the home they live in. And one of the most popular renovation projects that seems to regularly make it to the top of every homeowner’s list is improving their kitchen.

What’s more, having spent much of the past 18 months locked down at home – need we be reminded – our kitchens have become more than just a place to eat. Instead, they’ve become a hub for socialising, cooking, entertaining and simply just, enjoying. With that in mind, in anticipation of the new year, we’ve forecasted our top three kitchen trend predictions for 2022.

Bringing the outside, inside

The desire to bring the outside – a trend that’s emerged over the past few years and one that’s here to stay.

From beautifully big bi-fold doors to over-counter skylights, homeowners seem to be doing all they can to seamlessly break the seam between outside and inside. People want to feel sunlight while they’re preparing dinner and while breathing in all that nature has to offer as they eat their dinner. And with so many clever modern-day designs now incorporating the likes of over-the-sink windows, or replacing walls with fully openable doors, bringing the outside in has never been easier.

Double-island craze

When renovating, making room for a single kitchen island is a must, right? We’re pretty sure that 99 per cent of people who come to us asking about renovating their home, mention wanting an island in their kitchen. Forget single islands though, 2022 is all about the double island.

Whatever your island doubles up as, whether it’s a sink, hob, dining area, preparation space and not forgetting storage, they’re multi-functional. And, while at first, it might seem that they take up a large amount of space, think of what else you’ll be able to strip back on – like all of those bulky wall cabinets.

Of course, it goes without saying that a kitchen island – if not two – makes the perfect centrepiece when entertaining. If you can manoeuvre the space to include one (or two!) when renovating your kitchen, for us, it’s a must.

Kitchen-office space

With working from home becoming more common, homeowners are not just looking – but needing – to make space for an at-home office. And believe it or not, the kitchen makes the ideal spot.

With natural light almost guaranteed, along with the fact that your kettle and fridge are easily accessible, creating a kitchen with allocated office space seems a no brainer for all those who work from home.

When working on the layout of your kitchen, why not consider including a concealed off area or a space discreetly tucked away – either of which would be perfect for your new home office? There are plenty of design solutions now available that can be sure you get the space you need to work while ensuring office time doesn’t blend in with family time.
